Doug has fun on Knight

Doug usually goes out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday on Knight  for a trail ride. Here he is out on part of the trail. I rode out on the quad to check for hazards etc.

Today there was no rain after another powerful  day of raining hard. The leak in the bedroom started up again. Hopefully in another month or so I will have pictures here of the workers putting on a new roof. Doug and I are too old now to do it ourselves. Both of us have re roofed houses and outbuildings in the past,  (with different spouses) and we know exactly what is involved. Our neighbor at the end of the cul de sac had his done for a good price last year  so we will find out who did his roof.

Everything is dry in the house

The patching of the roof worked and we had rain for most of the night and now continuing for the day. I had a plastic drop cloth over the bed just on case. With an old bath mat under where a bucket would go.

The horses are all blanketed and with warm bran mashes and lots of hay to keep them happy and warm and hydrated. We put two rubber mats in for Coco as she was standing in manure water. We are waiting for dryness so that Hector the ranch cleaner and feeder, can get the big tractor out and scoop a load of sandy soil and put it in the front of both Coco and Pesky's pens and then rubber mats on top. Rubber mats cost $50 each so we will see how we go. They are very heavy so Doug drills holes in each corner so that we can use hay hooks to drag them where we want them, it takes two. I was delighted to see that we can buy non smooth ones as they can be extremely slippery. My old horse who died a few years ago, slipped on a smooth one in the wash rack and got stuck unable to rise under the wash rack metal railings. I was able to drag him out by his halter, while Doug went for help.

I will keep myself occupied this afternoon by finding two pedigrees and one compilation, and then packing them and shipping them. I have sold them on Ebay and Etsy. Secretariat, Princequillo and the military horse Reckless that was in S. Korea. They are in a file cabinet and not in strict alphabetical order. I have over 200

Here is the compilation that I made, designed etc of Sergeant Reckless

pedigrees and compilations that I have made since 2003 and first got the idea.

Roof work

Hubby Doug up on the roof

He thinks he has patched it. We will not know until the next storm which comes in tonight. I have a plastic drop cloth to put over the bed just in case. All the bedding and mattress and box spring are now all dry due to central heating and me working with a hair dryer. Dasha and Doug are out at the ranch with the horses turning them out and then putting nice waterproof and padded blankets on them in anticipation of some cold, to us, wet weather for the next few days, such a blessing for dry California.

Doug rides Tandy

Today was a riding day, the weather was good and Dasha and Doug were due to ride. It turned out that Dasha's ride Coco got paranoid at the hitching post, and Dasha decided to not ride. Coco was nervous because she has a thing about slippery footing and she was standing in mud, and then Doug threw the saddle on Tandy and the stirrup clanged and scraped against the metal hitching post. I was not dressed to ride. So Doug went out solo on Tandy. The video is of him returning to home base after a ride out on the ranch for about an hour. He stopped to let Tandy eat fresh green grass several times and also stopped to look at the cows in an adjoining field at the farthest end of the ranch.

That me taking the video and my step daughter in law Dasha who owns Tandy.

A sunny day after the rain.

We had a lot of rain and more rain is coming on Monday. My garden is so happy. I was out earlier mowing the grass. My lungs do not allow me to get full breaths, as I have had a horrible cough for the last week and a half. So I felt light headed and had to rest quite often. I am sitting now with a cup of tea resting, but glad to tidy up outside. We live in a cul de sac with neighbors so I always feel as if I need to keep up appearances with my garden in the front that is visible. The back is more relaxed, although I did mow there also. Earlier in the day we went out to the horses as usual. Muddy out there, but we could turn out the horses to get some exercise. I wore my rubber boots. When it rained we had a major roof leak in our middle bedroom. The mattress and box spring got wet on one corner. So husband Doug has gone to the hardware with the truck to get a long ladder and other supplies to fix the leak. We are going to have a new roof put on soon. It is just choosing the right time when the rain has stopped for the year.
