A few months ago I had the idea to cut down on how much grass I mow in the front of our house.I put some roofing felt down on the area that I planned to make into an island flower bed, so that the grass would get killed.

 

It was a lot of hard work, but at last I have dug over, pulled out grass roots and tree roots and bits of plastic mesh from my proposed flower bed. I transplanted three roses and  some plant divisions and cuttings. Hopefully they will all live and flourish.
